Appointment with sport climbing in Arco

The last weekend of July was the time of the traditional Rock Master Festival, combined with the Italian stage of the World Cup Lead and Speed, followed, in August, by the Rock Junior for the under 14.

In the streets of the historic centre of Arco, the world of sport climbing is present in every shop window, even before the Rock Master Village opens, with the many wooden houses that host, in front of and around the Collegiate Church, the proposals of specialised climbing and outdoor companies.
The climate is more than summer: the heat will make the athletes who will compete in the various specialties of the Festival and the World Cup during the three days of the event suffer. But we are in Garda Trentino, which is not far from the lake, is still a microclimatic enclave able to offer an almost Mediterranean landscape.
The World Climbing Championship, which has been held every two years since 1991, was hosted in Arco in 2011. On that occasion the new Climbing Stadium was developed, placed at the foot of the limestone cliff, a fixed structure capable of hosting competitions at the same time in all disciplines of climbing.
Four steel arches, suspended in pairs of 25-metre-high pylons, support the climbing walls and the roof tensile structure; on a height of 18 metres, the 14-metre-high wall projects.
Between the two overhanging walls dedicated to Lead are the two 15-metre-high Speed tracks, with two parallel lanes slightly overhanging.
On the opposite side of the lawn for the public, the 4.50 metre high and 15 metre wide covered wall for the Boulder is completed.
The IFSC Climbing World Cup is an international race circuit organized by the International Federation of Sport Climbing since 1989. At the end of the season four cups are awarded: Boulder, Speed, Lead and Combined. The Rock Master Festival hosts the only Italian stage of the IFSC Climbing World Cup in the Speed and Lead disciplines.

The results are available on the website: http://www.ifsc-climbing.org/index.php/component/ifsc/?view=event&WetId=7149
The entire event is organized by the SSD Arrampicata Sportiva Arco (Amateur Sports Climbing Association of Arco), and Angelo Seneci, founder of SintRoc, is the Clerk of the Course.
