The redevelopment of the athletics track in Follonica, Campo Scuola, is part of the National Plan for Redevelopment (PNRR) investments for the redevelopment of school buildings, as it serves the nearby high schools.

The project aimed to redevelop the school sports area, which was in a state of disrepair.
After removing the existing surface layer and the bituminous concrete subbase by 3-5 cm, and integrating it with a new bituminous finishing mat to achieve the necessary flatness, a new two-tone prefabricated multilayer sandwich synthetic surface was installed.

The project for the athletics track in Follonica involved demolishing the existing internal and external perimeter curbs and rebuilding them with concrete curbs in compliance with regulatory heights and flatness, in addition to resurfacing the aluminum perimeter curb with accident prevention features in accordance with FIDAL regulations and the relevant warning signs.

At the same time, the four existing light towers and their foundations were demolished as they no longer met standards, and four new light towers were built, each with 12 LED floodlights.

The reinforced concrete grandstand was also replaced with a prefabricated structure of similar size, capable of seating 420 spectators with four disabled spaces.

Finally, additional work was carried out on the ancillary buildings, including the installation of a prefabricated unit for restrooms and an equipment storage facility.
