Opened in 1995, the stadium was born as an ambitious and innovative project. At the time, it was one of the first stadiums to be built and managed entirely by a private company, marking a change in the Italian football landscape, which was still tied to outdated municipal stadiums.

Since 2013, Mapei has had exclusive management rights to the Mapei Stadium.

Initially designed to ensure maximum comfort for spectators, it has undergone constant improvements, thanks in particular to the work carried out by Mapei during its management.

The stadium is the ‘home’ of Sassuolo Calcio and Reggiana, who play their home matches here. Mapei has invested significantly in the modernisation of the facility, contributing to its enhancement and making it a model for other Italian football clubs.

Today, the stadium is equipped with full coverage of the stands, state-of-the-art lighting and audio systems, modern hospitality areas and facilities for the press and television, making it one of the most efficient stadiums in the country.

In preparation for the 2025/26 season, the pitch at the Mapei Stadium – Città del Tricolore in Reggio Emilia was completely converted to natural grass last summer. For the first time in Italy, the NorthBridge variety of Bermuda grass was used, the same variety that will also be chosen for some of the pitches for the upcoming 2026 World Cup in North America.

The redevelopment and constant improvement of all facilities has consolidated the image of the Stadium, including in the ancillary areas and common rooms.

The latest works involved the replacement and installation of new, high-quality carpeting in the corridors and entrance area to the pitch, as well as in the spacious and functional Conference Room.

The quality of the spaces is enhanced by the false ceilings, made of reinforced concrete panels that are particularly resistant to humidity in the outdoor area, and plasterboard with integrated multicoloured LED strips for the internal corridors. In the hospitality area and changing rooms, plasterboard and mineral wool false ceilings with excellent sound absorption properties have been used.
