The audio experience in sports venues as large international stadiums requires state-of-the-art technological solutions: Exhibo’s JBL Professional has been used in large stadiums, such as Tottenham Hotspur and the Rugby Football Union’s Twickenham in the UK.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – designed by Populous and built in 2019 – boasts a capacity of 62,850 spectator seats and features futuristic solutions such as a retractable pitch, which allows the turf to be preserved when the facility is used for other events.

In order to achieve a project of this level, it was necessary to provide a sound system that would guarantee exceptional sound quality even in the presence of the vociferous crowd of fans, the so-called Spurs.

The solution adopted is a complete JBL Professional system, consisting of 156 JBL VLA-C2100 two-way full-range loudspeakers, arranged in 18 clusters, each of which is equipped with three JBL VLA-C125S subwoofers, oriented two forward and one rearward.

There are also 196 All-Weather JBL AWC82 loudspeakers, 140 Crown DriveCore Install amplifiers and more than 3,500 JBL Control Contractor loudspeakers distributed throughout the venue to ensure adequate coverage.

In fact, not only the stands, but also all audience areas and premium hospitality areas are equipped with integrated audio and video systems to ensure a consistent and engaging experience wherever you are.

With audio mixing handled by a Soundcraft Vi2000 digital console and monitored with JBL LSR 305 nearfield monitors, the JBL VLA-C2100 system exceeded all of Tottenham Hotspur’s expectations in terms of both sound pressure and intelligibility.

At the historic Twickenham Stadium, home of the Rugby Football Union (RFU) and the home of England’s national rugby team since 1907, the need was to update and bring the previous sound system, now twenty years old and therefore in need of a complete overhaul, up to the state of the art technology: an operation made possible by the choice of JBL Professional’s VLA Compact line array solution.

This line array thrives on the highest quality components to which JBL’s Touring range has always accustomed users, but in a compact, easy-to-install and IP65-rated format, to eliminate any concerns about damage caused by water ingress or other weather conditions.

Completing the installation are JBL’s AWC Series loudspeakers, arranged as reinforcement under the balcony to ensure the best coverage in all spaces. In addition, several JBL PD6322 modules are used to cover the playing field when the stadium hosts events.

System amplification is provided by Crown Professional’s DCi series amplifiers with DriveCore technology and integrated DSP, powerful and efficient, perfect for audio distribution over a Dante network. As a further but fundamental plus, the system’s security support in JBL’s choice, thanks to the monitoring of the integrity of the loudspeaker circuits, one of the DCi’s key features.
