Casali Sport’s design of sports surface and cycle path coverings fully complies with CAM and the DNSH principle.
Casali Sport: sports surfaces in line with CAM and DNSH

For its sports surfaces Casali Sport adopts a design and production approach that is fully consistent with CAM and the DNSH principle, in many cases exceeding the minimum legal requirements. The objective is twofold: to limit environmental impacts through innovative solutions and to promote a responsible and forward-looking industrial culture.
In fact, the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRP) has bound every intervention measure to the “Do No Significant Harm†(DNSH) principle, introduced by Regulation (EU) 2020/852 on the taxonomy for sustainable finance.
This principle requires that any investment should not cause significant harm to the six environmental objectives identified at European level, including climate change mitigation, sustainable use of water and marine resources, the transition to a circular economy and the protection of biodiversity.
In Italy, one of the main tools to implement this vision is represented by the Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM), an operational emanation of Green Public Procurement (GPP). GPP promotes the integration of environmental sustainability in public procurement and, through CAM, binds contracting authorities to adopt technical specifications, contractual clauses and award criteria that reduce the environmental impact throughout the life cycle of goods, services and works. CAM are now mandatory for public administration purchases according to Art. 57 of Legislative Decree 36/2023 (new Public Contracts Code).

The example of Casali Sport: CAM and DNSH
An emblematic example is the high SRI (Solar Reflectance Index) acrylic coatings developed by Casali Sport for cycle paths and sports surfaces. These finishes are designed to reflect solar radiation, helping to reduce the “heat island†effect in densely built-up urban contexts. The COLORSINT, COLORTOP, SUPERSOFT, POLYSPORT, SUPERSOFT DOUBLE, SURFACE EVOLUTION, CONFOSPORT and ROLLERTOP systems are certified by accredited laboratories according to ASTM E1980-11, with SRI values ≥ 29 fully compliant with CAM requirements.
Faced with the intensification of extreme climatic events, Casali has also developed draining and semi-draining floorings capable of improving rainwater runoff, reducing the risk of flooding. The SPORTRACK SC and SPORTRACK SC PLUS surfaces in polyurethane resin as well as the DRYSTONE FLOOR line in natural stone for street furniture, comply with the criteria of rainwater permeability according to UNI EN 12616 (for SPORTRACK), UNI EN 12697 (DRYSTONE) ensuring high mechanical performance and excellent draining capacity.
Casali Sport is committed in respecting CAM and the DNSH principle also with the promotion of the circular economy: all the sports flooring systems integrate certified secondary raw materials, in particular anti-trauma rubber mats from end-of-life tyres (ELTs), with a high recycled content.

In terms of emissions, Casali Sport develops formulations with low environmental impact, minimising the presence of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) and other hazardous substances. The products comply with the limits set by Directive 2004/42/EC, helping to improve air quality in the environments in which they are installed and in those intended for physical activity. As far as indoor emissions are concerned, Casali Sport systems belong to emission classes A and A+ (according to French decree no. 321/2011) in compliance with UNI EN 16000-9.
Among the most recent innovations is LUMIDARK 1000, a photoluminescent finish for cycle paths and footpaths. This product improves visibility at night in sections without public lighting, without energy consumption, offering a sustainable solution for safe urban mobility.
Casali’s entire production chain is geared towards efficiency. The factory, located in the centre of Italy, was recently renovated with energy-efficient equipment. The location also makes it possible to optimise logistics throughout the country, reducing average distances and the environmental impact associated with transport for both procurement and sales. As the only Italian manufacturer able to offer all types of sports turf (acrylic, polyurethane, cast and mixed) in-house, Casali guarantees a short, traceable and highly efficient supply chain.
Each project, product or service is evaluated through the lens of sustainability, with a systemic approach that combines technical knowledge, innovation and responsibility.
The aim is to contribute in a tangible way to a future in which sports surfaces are an active part of the ecological transition, respecting European principles and benefiting local communities.
