Varese: Climbing Gym and Padel Courts

Through a project financing initiative, a sports center has been built in Varese, including a climbing facility, five indoor padel courts, and a parkour area.
The project’s aim was to provide the local community with a new, modern, and functional sports facility dedicated entirely to sports, with a particular focus on environmental sustainability.
The aesthetics of the project – its proportions, colors, and materials, along with the balanced arrangement of volumes and the well-organized flow of spaces—aim to enhance the sports complex, combining recreation and entertainment in a single space that serves the city and is accessible to all.

The spatial configuration and distribution of functions resulted from an analysis and evaluation of various alternative solutions, based on the requirements specified by the municipal administration, with the goal of finding an appropriate architectural and operational solution and optimizing the cost-benefit ratio.
The project in Varese includes a new main building to house a climbing gym; the installation of five indoor padel courts equipped with lighting and heating systems; and an outdoor parkour area. In addition to a new parking lot for facility users, a grass soccer field open to the public has also been planned outside the sports center.
The bouldering area is located in the central part of the gym and features a 4-meter-high wall, while the lead climbing area occupies the remaining space with walls ranging from 10 to 15 meters in height.
A wall approximately 16 meters high on the exterior of the building is designated for speed climbing.
