The completion and renovation work of the athletics track in Porto San Giorgio (Fm) was planned and financed by the municipality of Porto San Giorgio, in the province of Fermo in the Marche region.

The project developed by the Municipal Technical Office concerned the renovation of the area used as an athletics track and football field owned by the municipality, with the primary objective of carrying out all the work necessary to restore full functionality and decency to the facility.

The athletics track in Porto San Giorgio is located inside the sports centre in Via G. d’Annunzio, in a barycentric position with respect to the football pitch that runs alongside the railway and a few steps from the sea; the facility is also served by a changing room for athletes/referees and a grandstand accessible to the public.

The construction of the track dates back to the late 1970s; it has undergone some maintenance work in subsequent years, but not enough to maintain the structure at peak efficiency.

The design choice was also evaluated in relation to alternative solutions, minimizing construction, management and maintenance costs.

Therefore, having taken note of the state of situation and verified the condition of the existing layers, it was decided to proceed with the resurfacing of the substrate and the execution of a new synthetic mantle of the elastic and draining type, also in order to avoid sprouting along the internal and external perimeter.

A new FIDAL-approved elastic synthetic turf of the sprayed-on draining type was preferred, poured on site with SBR selected rubber and single-component binder and surface topping of coloured polyurethane resin mixed with EPDM terpolymer granules, sprayed on site.
