Rovereto (Trento): Re-made track at the “Quercia” Stadium

The intervention on the track where the traditional “Palio della Quercia” takes place every year was necessary because of the wear of the previous surface.

The track has therefore been re-paved using the “retopping” technique, which first of all involves grinding the surface to a depth of 2-3 mm, in order to remove the existing material; then levelling with two-component polyurethane adhesive for the correct restoration of the track surfaces.

The type of flooring chosen therefore required the laying of a layer of prefabricated rubber designed and manufactured in rolls with constant and uniform performance, which are glued to the bituminous substrate using a two-component polyurethane adhesive.

A second superficial layer was carried out through the levelling of the prefabricated mat and the subsequent application of a continuous coating in polyurethane, resistant to nails, applied in the liquid state, consisting of several layers of self-levelling polyurethane.
Finally, the surface finish – which also visually differentiates this covering from the traditional ones – is carried out by manually sowing coloured EPDM rubber granules. The very characteristic of the surface in pure rubber granules allows the cushioning and gives a feeling of softness while retaining the necessary elasticity of the covering.

For the new track, which previously had the classic red colour, the “Blue Sky” was chosen, similar to the track of the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
With the IAAF certificate of 19 August 2019, the track was homologated in Class 2.
