The special coverings of Plasteco Milano

In addition to tensile and pressure structures on the playing fields of sports facilities, FT Plasteco Milano is also involved in small-scale roofing.

Plasteco Milano presents the best expression of architecture in tensile structures with its special coverings. And not only because of the use of materials with special characteristics, but also because of the sizes and shapes that can be obtained for any requirement.

This type includes large canopies, grandstand roofing, event roofing and covers, large and small, for various types of events.

Cagliari, underground stops coverings by Plasteco

Among the most interesting solutions implemented recently are the canopies of two stations of the Cagliari Metro, in the section from San Gottardo to the terminus of the ‘Duilio Casula’ University Hospital; we are, to be exact, in the municipality of Monserrato.

The two stops, ‘Dell’Acqua’ and ‘Policlinico’, are characterized by an identical structure, which shadows the respective platforms in both directions with ‘sails’.

The work carried out by Plasteco Milano is a restoration of roofs previously made of different materials. The structure has been preserved, making only minor changes to optimise the final result.

The old sails, which were partly torn, were replaced with a 900 g/m2 PVC Type 2 Precontraint 942 fabric (manufacturer Ferrari), coated on both sides, with European fire class B-s2,d0.

The fabric was cut and welded by workers specialized in high-frequency welding, and all work steps were carried out in a workmanlike manner.

Arzachena (Sassari), Aquadream Water Park

For the large gazebo of this very popular water park, Plasteco Milano realized a special covering, an architectural-style sail roof with high and low tension points was recently constructed. The supporting structure has a central mast measuring 15×15 with a height of 6.20 m.

The coverings that Plasteco Milano supplied for this realization was made of high-strength polyester fabric with a 960 g/sqm Type 2 PVC coating (manufacturer Sattler) UV-stabilized on both sides. The product has the same fire retardant characteristics seen in the Cagliari intervention.

Corsico (Milan), former Pozzi area

In the public park created on the former Pozzi area, along the Naviglio Grande canal on the outskirts of Milan, a tensile structure has been erected for parties and public events.

The structure that underlies the roof is a semi-arch with 34 metres of development by 18.50, with a height of 10 metres. This is composed of a 28-metre central arch and a sheet stretched on poles tensioned with ropes varying in height from 1.70 to 2.50 m (to allow rainwater to run off), distributed in a semicircle on one side; on the opposite side there is a 34-metre groove tensioned on a steel cable, fixed on two poles with ropes 3.50 m high.

The roofing membrane is made of a 1,150 g/m2 Type 3 Precontraint 1202 S2 fabric, manufactured by Ferrari.
