The new National Stadium of Albania was inaugurated on 17 November 2019 on the occasion of the Albania-France match valid for the selections at the European Football Championship 2020.
The objective of the intervention was to create a contemporary monument able to enhance, through an infrastructure dedicated to sport, the image and role of the Albanian capital.

It is a building replacement because it is located in the same area where the original sports complex dedicated to athletics and football, designed in the late thirties by the Florentine architect Gherardo Bosio, stood. The building, with the exception of the monumental structure at the entrance to the authority grandstand, has been completely demolished and rebuilt with the aim of building a facility capable of meeting Uefa standards, to create a fully covered football facility with annexed services, functions and activities capable of making the building live every day with continuity.

The functional program includes arena, hotel, football services, shopping center, offices, parking.
The total number of seats in covered stands is 22,000.
