Banksia (Australia): Barton Park in Sydney

A strip of land on Botany Bay south of Sydney, surrounded by water and vegetation, on which there was already a sports facility, known as St. George Stadium, has been transformed into a state-of-the-art sports and recreational facility, which the growing population of the surrounding area will be able to enjoy: Barton Park in Banksia, Australia.
The old stadium had manifested several problems with both the field and the stands, forcing the St George football club to move to other facilities.
The modernization includes three new regulation-size natural grass soccer fields, one of which is FIFA-compliant, a new state-of-the-art facility with a 450-seat spectator stand, two multipurpose courts suitable for basketball, futsal, and handball, four tennis courts, new facilities, and in addition a 1,600-square-meter play space.

Improved road access and new pathways enhance the connectivity of the neighborhood, promoting easier and safer access for families, sportsmen, and casual visitors. The old stadium had manifested several problems with both the field and the stands, forcing the St George football club to move to other facilities.

New Barton Park in Sydney: the ecological aspect
Despite its proximity to Sydney International Airport, Barton Park is an ecologically sensitive area, flanked by areas of saltmarsh, protected wetlands frequented by migratory bird species and coastal management areas along Muddy Creek, a bend in which the fresh waters of the Cooks River and the brackish waters of the sea alternate with the tides.
MODE worked closely with environmental pollution consultants, civil and structural engineers to develop Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) and stormwater management strategies throughout the site, which is subject to flood risk.
Particular importance has been given to biodiversity and sustainability. Barton Park in Sydney offers spaces and services for everyone, from families with kids to sports people.
