Formula Prato® increasingly sustainable

The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) are fundamental tools for assessing and communicating the environmental impact of a product throughout its life cycle.

ONE-DNA™ synthetic turf, distributed exclusively for Italy by Formula Prato®, stands out in the market for its environmental sustainability certified by LCA and EPD.

LCA, or Life Cycle Assessment examines each stage of a product’s life, from the production of raw materials to final disposal and considers the resources used and emissions generated, providing a complete view of the environmental impact. The main objective of the LCA is to identify areas for improvement, enabling companies to optimize their production processes and reduce their overall environmental impact.

The EPD, or Environmental Product Declaration, shows the results of the LCA in a standard third-party verified format. This makes the environmental performance of products transparent and comparable. Having an EPD can be a significant competitive advantage.

ONE-DNA™ Artificial Grass: innovation and sustainability in the artificial grass industry

ONE-DNA™ synthetic turf are certified by LCA and EPD. ONE-DNA™ technology is continuously developing to reduce its environmental impact: recent production optimizations have enabled the lowering of the environmental cost index (ECI) and the issuing of new EPD environmental certificates for all products in the collections.

ONE-DNA™ Artificial Grass offers sustainable solutions for public areas, schools, multi-purpose sports fields, landscaping and playgrounds.

The introduction of ONE-DNA™ turf in the innovative Formula Gioco Safety System of Formula Prato® has made the combined system of artificial grass, regenerated polyethylene foam (XPE) anti-trauma mat and silica sand the first UNI EN 1177/2019 certified sustainable and 100% recyclable anti-trauma flooring on the market.

Circular Economy and End of Life

A key aspect of ONE-DNA™ technology is the preservation of end-of-life value, which is essential to close the material cycle and activate a truly circular economy. ONE-DNA™ Artificial Grass is made from a single raw material, 100% polyethylene (PE).

1 – Traditional artificial grass with SBR latex or PU backing: it is composed of a mix of 3 or 4 polymers; difficult recycling (downcycling cycle). 2 – Artificial turf with PP backing (PP dispersion backing): is composed of a mix of two polymers, PE and PP; possibility of recycling with loss of raw material value (Downcycling cycle).
3 – Artificial grass ONE-DNA™: is composed of a single polymer, 100%PE; maximum recyclability and preservation of the value of the raw material (Upcycling cycle).

Formula Prato® is committed in Italy to the implementation of the Take-Back programme, a cutting-edge international project for the recycling of ONE-DNA™ artificial turf. Thanks to a specific App it will be possible to locate the installations, trace the recovery phases and know in advance in which products the ONE-DNA™ turfs will be given a new life.

Economic and competitive advantage

Every ONE-DNA™ product installed carries the highest certifications for performance, non-toxicity and durability and is a commitment to real sustainability verified through Life Cycle Assessment.

ONE-DNA™ is the economically winning choice not only for the savings obtained from extended life and reduced maintenance; thanks to the EPD, for the first time in the synthetic turf industry, the environmental cost of the product is monetized in an objective manner, bringing to light a cost component that until now has been hidden and not considered in public tenders or direct awarding, allowing contracting stations an informed and conscious evaluation of the real cost of a project.
