“The idea of our R&D lab was to develop a surface for playing padel that had Casali Sport‘s DNA, thus different from those commonly used – artificial turf saturated with silica sand – and able to offer high playing comfort and safety” explains Mauro Moreschi, General Manager Casali S.p.A.
This is the genesis of XPadel, Casali Sport’s innovative resin flooring system, designed to ensure competitive level playing performance (homogeneity of rebound, performance stability over time, excellent vertical deformation) but designed at the same time to ensure the containment of players’ joint stress, thanks to the presence of a functional elastic layer consisting of a special mat with shock-absorbing properties. Surveys carried out with the Artificial Athlete when comparing data against 12-mm 54,600 pt/m2 monofilament type artificial turf clogged with silica sand, in fact, showed a 30 to 60 percent higher energy absorption capacity (KA) and about 40 percent higher vertical deformation value (VD), compared to synthetic turf, in both versions of the Casali Sport system: XPadel RB and XPadel AC.
If we wanted to summarize the broad characteristics of an XPadel field we should undoubtedly emphasize, in addition to the safety given by the high shock absorption, its indoor and outdoor versatility, its homogeneous performance at every point of the field due to the perfect uniformity of the surface, the proper glide – on most grass courts, excess sand can cause excessive glide, which, in addition to increasing the risk of joint trauma, limits the effect imparted to the ball in muffed or knockout shots – and the pleasure of playing on a surface capable of returning high-level technical performance. These are qualities that greatly excite players who measure themselves on an XPadel court, but those aspects that most interest clubs, academies, sports centers, and especially those who are called upon, in this case, to make a real “court choice” should also be highlighted; XPadel is weather resistant, durable and easily regenerated with a simple retopping or resurfacing, has low maintenance costs, and allows a wide choice of colors in addition to the classic light blue, for greater customization of the courts within the sports facility. In addition, the two versions of the XPadel system arise from the desire to best meet the needs of sports facilities and users. In the AC version characterized by an acrylic resin finish, the field allows a nervous and snappy game, the rebounds are fast, the grip is that of major competitions, the vertical deformation turns out to be three times that of artificial turf; in the RB version, the polyurethane finish with EPDM rubber granules offers the possibility to customize the grip, ensuring a comfortable game, always exciting, without the abrasive effect typical of siliceous sand, and the shock absorption turns out to be more than double that of artificial turf.
Furthermore, the choice of an advanced field such as XPadel cannot disregard many other factors such as the number of total fields in the sports facility, the age and athletic training range of the users, the frequency of use of the surface given the density of footfall of the sport, the budget available, and the plan of offering sports activities that can attract and satisfy increasingly large segments of sportsmen and women.
In this sense, it is essential to carefully evaluate the best solution, taking into account that an XPadel field is mainly aimed at a user base that seeks a differentiated and innovative offer, in this case guaranteed by a brand like Casali Sport and its thirty years of experience.
