Renovation of the Avesani Sports Centre in Verona

Avesani Sports Centre in Verona, Italy, includes many activities: from football to athletics, from swimming pools to indoor gyms with hockey and figure skating, five-a-side football, handball and fitness.
The Municipal Administration, as part of the PNRR plan’s investments, took the opportunity to bring the athletics track back to life with a modern synthetic flooring of a higher category, and to build a new football pitch with state-of-the-art artificial turf.

Since this is a PNRR project, with very precise performance requirements and time limits to be met, on pain of loss of funding, the approach of the design team and the specialised companies that carried out the work was to tackle the project together with an optimal mix of perfectly detailed executive design, assiduous work by qualified workers, the use of dedicated high-level materials, and the use of modern and punctual specialised equipment.

The athletics track of the Avesani Sports Centre in Verona was refurbished by maintaining the 6-lane 400 m long ring, extending the high jump and pole vaulting run-up surfaces with complete lunettes, and also by bringing the long jump and triple jump platform up to standard with new gritters at the drop pits. The new waterproof covering is of the mixed “sandwich system†polyurethane type poured on site.

The football pitch was enlarged to the dimensions of 100×60 m. The artificial turf laid has a height of 54 mm, is four-coloured, with a infill of selected silica sand and a performance infill of elastomeric granules made of finished rubber. An irrigation system with 4 retractable sprinklers per side was also installed.
