Cittadella dello Sport in Tortona, new home for Derthona Basket, features a sports palace for 5000 spectators, playgrounds and outdoor kids areas.
Cittadella dello Sport in Tortona

On the outskirts of the city of Tortona, in province of Alessandria, the Cittadella dello Sport – now Nova Arena – has been built, financed by the Gavio family (one of Italy’s leading industrial groups). It includes a 5,000-seat sports hall as well as several multi-purpose sports fields and recreational areas.

The first lot to be completed in the Cittadella dello Sport in Tortona consists of three buildings: the Facility building, with two floors above ground used as a training ground, gym, offices and meeting rooms; a single-storey building used as changing rooms for the outdoor fields with a gym; and a building used as an information point, concierge and catering facility.
In the gym hall, the more than 800 square metres of floor space have been covered with 52 mm thick sports parquet flooring in maple.

The exterior finish of the Facility building consists of panels made of two aluminium cover sheets and a mineral core.
The mirror effect and the glass parapets that delimit the second-floor terrace, which is used for events and overlooks the Palazzetto, create the effect of an almost invisible building that completely reflects the Cittadella dello Sport and the Tortona countryside.

The outdoor area of Cittadella dello Sport in Tortona features a themed playground covering 230 square metres with 60 stations, whose main purpose is to integrate sports facilities with a unique play area that can entertain and motivate the young champions of tomorrow. Every detail of the playground has been carefully designed to reflect the identity of Derthona Basket.

The focal point of the project of Cittadella dello Sport in Tortona is the new sports hall, the last to be completed, which will mainly be used for Bertram Derthona basketball matches but also for shows and concerts, with a covered area of approximately 5,030 square metres.
The stadium roof is constructed entirely of laminated wood, with a diameter of approximately 80 metres and elements weighing over 70 tonnes. The pre-assembly phase on the ground of two 46-metre long and 6-metre high trusses was particularly important. A roofing system consisting of universal panels complete with acoustic finishing on the underside and protective sheeting on the upper side was installed on the wooden structure.
The interior of the sports hall of Cittadella dello Sport in Tortona is clad in burnished expanded metal, which envelops the central structure, with the addition of a lighting system that allows for special animations to be created on the façade.

All the materials used in the complex are designed for durability and easy maintenance.
Furnished with the best equipment, the sports hall in the Cittadella dello Sport in Tortona offers a removable central basketball court, with the same characteristics as the maple parquet flooring laid in the gym hall.
The stands have been fitted with 5,000 folding seats made from recycled plastic, certified PSV (Plastica Seconda Vita, or Second Life Plastic). High-strength glass parapets have been installed in the stands to ensure the safety of spectators without compromising visibility during sporting and other events.
