In 2014 the Barcelona City Council held an architectural competition for the landscape planning of an interior urban block and a sports facility consisting of an indoor heated swimming pool and a sports court.
The architecture of the new Palalido, as resulting from the executive project, is characterized by a great compositional simplicity but at the same time with a strong formal characterization that is intended to emphasize the social importance it has.
The design of volumes for sport and physical activity "for all". (even with areas-parterres where the presence of the public is expected) requires a specialized design approach, as a result of the complexity of the scale of engineering and the high technological level required.
The new sports facility is part of a highly urbanized and densely inhabited context, so as to play a fundamental role in the construction of a system of equipment, services and public areas connected to each other.
In this centre of the Modena Apennines, a new gymnasium with related changing rooms has been built, replacing an existing small gymnasium, insufficient for competitive activities and regular training of the various sports organizations in the area.
The public-private partnership is still the fastest way to build the new sports facilities. This is the case of a multi-purpose hall, with attention to construction details, which completes a consolidated sports area just a few meters from the F1 circuit.
The old circular exhibition pavilion has undergone a drastic transformation that has given life to the new sports hall, designed for basketball at an international level, with ingenious architectural and structural solutions.
